Makino EDGE2S

Makino EDGE2S Makino's EDGE2S Sinker EDM machine offers advanced technology and superior quality for those entry-level EDM shops looking to automate EDM and achieve superior surface finishes. It offers value without compromising technology or results.

The machine offers Makino's HQSF™ (High Quality Surface Finish) additive technology. It uses an environmentally safe powder additive that is mixed with the dielectric fluid to improve electrical conductivity for a more consistent discharge. This eliminates secondary discharges that waste energy, and allows increased efficiency of the sparks to achieve a superior finish without a loss in metal removal rates. The additive-based technology has a 40-50 percent improvement of achievable surface finish over conventional EDM sinkers in similar applications.

Simple programming and sophisticated control technology allow Makino's IES (Intelligent Expert System) to optimize numerous machining conditions on the fly. It corrects variables including on and off time, jump parameters and current—providing complete control of the EDM process—a substantial increase in machining efficiency. The EDGE2S can machine small, intricate jobs and deep ribs reliably and accurately without trial runs, regardless of operator skill.

The EDGE2S features 12x10x10" travels and weighs a sturdy 6,000 pounds. The machine bed is a heavily ribbed single piece casting. Anti-friction linear guides and bearings complete the high-performance design. This heavy-duty construction, combined with the fixed table, brings high levels of rigidity to every application.

The EDGE2S has an eight- or 16-station automatic electrode changer for unattended operation and improved throughput. It contains an MR rotating head capable of standard Z-axis high-speed pulse machining at 10m/min. A fixed table eliminates dielectric weight shift during machining—improving servo reaction, speed and precision.

Makino's award winning drop tank design improves many aspects of the EDM process. The retractable tank walls provide wide-open table access for safe, simple slide-on loading and faster, more accurate setups and the matching of dielectric fluid level to work piece size.
